New Wheels!

After almost 5 months, David’s wheelchair finally arrived. Long time readers will remember that insurance tried to evade, avoid, dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge their way out of approving David’s wheelchair but at long last and with some help from the Benefits head at David’s company, as well as Dorothy from the wheelchair company, we outlasted them.
Wheelchairs are the ultimate tool for people with spinal cord injuries - they ARE their legs as well as their vehicle for independence. David’s new power chair has a lift feature too, so he can elevate to sit at bars and be able to have conversations with people at eye level too.

One more note on the chair - we cannot thank Alex and Nina enough for loaning us Alex’s extra chair. I truly and honestly don’t know what we would have done without it. The word “grateful” doesn’t even come close.
This week, I rolled up to New York City for 24 hours for a work trip, which gave me a bit of time to reflect. A couple of key milestones await us on our journey to find our family’s new normal - we’re hoping David is able to resume work next week (🤞🤞🤞🤞) and that we’ll be able to move home in the first half of November.

We have come so far and that has only been possible with the help of our friends and family. From where we have lived since returning from Atlanta to what we are driving to our approach to all of this - it is only possible because of all of you - and your love and support. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Love, Erika and David

Congrats on securing the new chair, insurance be damned!
What fantastic news -- his own wheels! I can only imagine the barriers the insurance company put up and the relief you all felt when you finally got them to cover what you deserved. Great progress! Richard
That’s fantastic news! I’m really happy for you all. Having a lift for different levels sounds like a big benefit. Glad you have made it past this milestone.
Terrific news on a milestone that you should never have had to fight for. Insurance companies! Ugh!
this is great news!! So happy he finally got his wheelchair!
